Dr. Athanasios Kontaris / General-Family Physician, Personal Physician

Dr. Athanasios Kontaris was born in Patras and practices General and Family Medicine, with a focus on primary health care, prevention, and overall patient well-being.
He graduated from the Department of Nursing (ATEI of Lamia) in 1999 and completed his Medical Degree at the University of Patras in 2006. In 2008, he began his professional career as a rural physician at the Serifos Primary Health Care Unit.
From 2009 to 2015, he lived and worked in Sweden, where he obtained his specialty in General / Family Medicine and served in major hospitals in Stockholm, including Karolinska University Hospital and Danderyd Hospital. In 2016, he contributed to the development of one of the first telemedicine platforms offering video consultations with a personal physician.
As part of his training, he also worked at the Trivandrum District Hospital in India, where he became familiar with Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medical system, and participated in medical volunteer programs, such as Project Favela in Rio de Janeiro.
From 2018 to 2025, he served as Consultant and sole physician at the Serifos Primary Health Care Unit, transforming it into a model primary care facility and performing the first successful thrombolysis in such a small healthcare setting. In 2023, he completed a Master’s degree in Disaster Medicine and Crisis Management at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During 2025–2026, he worked in the Emergency Departments of Limassol, further strengthening his experience in emergency medicine.
Today, he runs a private medical practice as a Personal Doctor within the GESY healthcare system, offering modern, personalized and holistic care, with a strong emphasis on prevention, physical activity, and mental–physical balance. He firmly believes in the therapeutic value of the doctor–patient relationship, stating:
“Medicine is a science, but care is an art.”
The doctor speaks Greek, English, Swedish, and Sign Language.
